PGR Training Update: We Want to Hear From You!

We at Research and Innovation Services are beginning to think about next year’s PGR training programme, and what to put in it. Most of your old favourites will be returning (Research Integrity, Presenting with Impact, Data Management, and of course the Writing courses), but we’d like to harness the collective insight and imagination of the whole UofG cohort to tell us: what would you like us to deliver that is not currently available? Where will the world be in five years’ time, and what professional skills will you wish you’d developed as a PGR? What do you need in your life at the moment? What do you wish you’d known, or been trained to do, as a first-year doctoral researcher?

We can’t promise to turn all your suggestions into reality (much as we’d like to put on courses in alligator wrestling to mitigate the coming effects of global warming …), but we’d like to know what the minds that will shape the world of tomorrow are hungry for today! Please send suggestions to Richard.marshall@glasgow.ac.uk

This leads me on to PRES: the Postgraduate Researcher Experience Survey. In the coming weeks, you will all be asked to submit your responses to the biennial nation-wide PRES survey. This is a chance for us, as a university, to gain insight from postgraduate research students about their learning and supervision experience. It provides the data we use in planning and making policy: everything from new supervisor training to the researcher development programme. For information about what we did in response to the 2017 survey, see here. Or here. Or here!

We look forward to hearing from you!
