Time to step it up a notch! Let's all Get Up and Go!
Calling all PGRs! This November the PGR office is running its first #PGRActive! competition and we want you all to take part and get moving.
Life as a researcher can be surprisingly sedentary. You sit down in front of your computer or settle into your lab space for the day and before you know it the day is gone and that promised trip to the gym, lunchtime walk or evening yoga session has been forgotten. Add to that the temptation to have ‘just one more’ biscuit with your cuppa (speaking from ample personal experience here) it can be so easy to let your good habits slip away in favour of the not so good ones…
This November, we want you all to take one small step for yourself and one giant leap for researchers everywhere! Ok, maybe more than one small step… As many steps as you can! And not just steps either. Walking, swimming, cycling and any other form of activity that you fancy. We will be pitting College vs. College to see who will claim the title of UofG’s most active PGR group and win our awesome prizes! On top of this we will also have a free week of membership for University Sport to the person who gets the biggest score!
Taking part is simple (and fun!)
Visit Countit.com and sign up with your UofG email address and your name (you can pick a fun one later!) It will then ask you if you have a tracker already or if you need one.
If you already have a tracker select the one that you currently use and connect it. You can choose how much you share with Countit.com but we recommend that you only share your steps and not your full profile.
If you don’t already have one you can download any tracker app to your phone (unsurprisingly Countit.com recommends their own) and then connect it in the same way.
Boom! you’re ready to Get Up and Go!
If you fancy you can add a picture and customise your username to something fun. The only thing we ask is that, if you want to participate in the competition, you have your college name (Arts, MVLS, S&E or SS) as the first part of your username. This is how we will keep track of the winners!
You can start tracking immediately and compare your activity score to everyone else but the competition begins on the 1st November and runs until 30th November.
Throughout the competition we will tweet small ideas on how to increase your daily activity levels and regular small competitions to help keep up your motivation. If you’re looking for some good habits to begin now, however, feel free to join us on our weekly PGR Lunchtime walks or get some alternative activity, not to mention delicious and healthy fresh veg, by signing up to join our PGR Gardening Team.
So what are you waiting for? Its time for #TeamUofG to move around a bit and start building on some of those good habits. And don’t worry! The PGR office will also be tracking :-)
Ready… Set… GO!
