What Is VYT?

Visualise Your Thesis (VYT) is an academic competition challenging graduate researchers at any stage of their candidature to present their projects in a 60-second, eye-catching, audio-visual digital display. The aim is to develop a striking video presentation that succinctly describes a PGR's research, and its potential benefits, to a non-specialist audience.

The competition provides PGRs with an opportunity to build and apply their digital literacy skills. By creating a “visual elevator pitch” they will develop crucial employability skills including effective communication, digital literacy, and visual storytelling. They will also build awareness of open access to information and copyright.

What The Judges Said

Being on the judging panel was a wonderful experience, the only hard part was deciding who our winners were as the standard was very high. I loved seeing how creative and clever the entries were when a lot of entrants had little or no video making experience. It was really special to view the videos on the big screen and they deserved their spot up there.

Such a privilege to experience the feast of ideas and creative makings of the participants. Please let them know how brilliant their presentations all were. Amazing to be with my fellow judges with so much depth and experience, humour and warmth. Enjoyed our tussle to pick a winner!
— Towana Sithole
Thanks so much for inviting me to be part of the event, which was so well run and so enjoyable. The films were brilliant and it was really great to see so much creative energy and talent. It was also great for me personally to hear about projects so far from my own everyday experience and circles of interest – really inspiring. I also really enjoyed getting to speak with the other judges about the films, it was fun process.
