Get involved in the Pint of Science Festival!
Adam Field, PhD researcher in MVLS, provides the background to the Pint of Science initiative and why you should think about getting involved.
The Pint of Science Festival is returning to Glasgow between the 23rd-25th of May 2016 to celebrate local research and local beer, all at the same time!
Pint of Science is an international science festival with the aim to engage the public with fun, interesting and cutting edge research from their local area, in a friendly and informal environment...the pub!
From humble roots starting in 2012, Pint of Science has exploded into a worldwide event spanning nine countries from The UK to Australia. The festival has featured on BBC Television, in Wired, The Daily Mail, The Independent, and was recognised by the Prime Minister for services to local communities. The appeal of science and beer seems unstoppable! In Europe alone, 70 cities play host to Pint of Science events each year.

The festival is the brainchild of two scientists from Imperial College London Michael Motskin and Praveen Paul who started out by organising ‘Meet the Researchers’, an event intended to bring sufferers of neurodegenerative disease into contact with the scientists working on their conditions. The event was a huge success, so Michael and Praveen decided to bust out of the lab and into watering-holes all over the world to bring ground-breaking scientific research to the general public.
Now is your chance to get involved and bring science to the masses. Over three evenings in May, Pint of Science will play host to a multitude of researchers from every conceivable field, from engineering to entomology, quantum physics to materials chemistry, there will be something for everyone looking at the latest developments in computing, medicine and so much more, coming out of our hometown of Glasgow.
The 2016 "Our Body" Team are on the hunt for the creepy, the crawly, the cellular and the molecular side of biological sciences. We are looking for passionate MVLS researchers at any stage of their career, from any area of biological research, to present before a public audience. Talks should be 15-20 minutes in length with ample time for Q&A at the end, around 30 minutes total. The aim is to make your research as exciting and accessible as possible!
